Re: Modifying Sound Finder to find high frequencies?
The first thing to do is to make a copy of your original recording (don't work on the original unless it does not matter if it gets destroyed). Working with very long audio recordings has many difficulties, not least the amount of waiting time for processing and general computer stability. I'd recom...

Re: can LEVELING help reduce steady background noise?
I doubt that it will help. but if it is free there's no harm trying it.

Re: Quality Settings for CD
When I am only going to do simple editing such as cutting and pasting with no other processing, I will set the default sample format to 16 bit since in this case, the export will be lossless (right?). It's difficult to advise on the best approach without understanding the nature of the job.

Re: Need help removing ringing background sound
[moderator note: link removed] next-door-are-fighting-again I'm not a legal expert, but it is probably a breach of privacy laws in many countries to record your neighbours and publish the recording on the Internet without consent. Also the recording quality is so poor that it would not be possible ...

Re: Ajouter des fichiers bout à bout.
Désolé, je ne parle pas français.
Déplacez les pistes avec l'outil Time Shift (Glissement Temporel Shift).
Les pistes se mélangent en un seul fichier lorsque vous exportez.

Re: Quality Settings for CD
I've merged your post mdubin with my previous reply to keep it all together. What I am not clear on at all is dither. That is where I need some guidance. There's a fairly detailed explanation of "dither" here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Dither The very short explanation is that digi...

Probably quicker too. Bit-wise processing in Nyquist is pretty slow.

Re: Hauppage WinTV 1600 board
Many TV boards produce a combined audio/video signal. As Audacity is an audio only program it may not be able to "see" such a signal. Reasonable quality USB sound cards start at a very low price, for example the Behringer UCA202 (line level input only) at around $30, or the more versatile ...
