If you export the project as a 16 bit WAV file (the default audio export format), that will play on Windows, Mac, Linux or just about anything else.

By default Audacity converts uncompressed audio files to 32 bit float format when they are imported. You must have clicked in just the wrong place ;) On the left edge of each toolbar is a vertical bar. That bar enables you to pull the toolbar out of its docked position and move it anywhere else on your screen, or dock it in a different position in the main Audacity window. Assuming that you have stopped the recording; Click on the track 5 seconds before the end of the track and click the Play button (or press the space bar). You may find it useful to work through one or more of these "getting started" tutorials: http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/man...
