Re: Audacity sucking up all available CPU time

"411" when they mean "information". Howard Carter finds Tutankhamun's tomb? :? Although the sound device information can be listed and selected in the Audacity Help tab it cannot be copied. No context menu appears using the right mouse button. You mean in "Help > Audio Devi...

Re: Recording Mono vs. Stereo with one USB Mic

Recording in "stereo" (two audio channels) with a mono microphone is likely to produce two identical audio tracks, though, depending on the hardware and the drivers may produce one channel with the sound and one silent channel. Recording as a stereo track will double the size of the Audaci...

Re: occasional noise

Is it possible that a cable might be at fault even though I am not touching any of the connections? That's not impossible. If any of your leads are old, check that the connections are clean, shiny, generally in good condition and securely connected.Just a very small amount of corrosion can cause in...

Re: Possible to Compress/Limit Input Signal?

You could use a hardware compressor between the microphone pre-amp and the computer audio input.
Audacity does not do real time processing so it is not possible to do that just with Audacity.

Re: VST Plugin Folder

Audacity is compatible with some VST plug-ins. It is not compatible with VSTi (VST instruments). Audacity is compatible with many but not all VST effects. Audacity does not support real-time or MIDI features in plug-ins. I don't think that Audacity will work with VST plug-ins that require dongles. S...

Re: Audacity sucking up all available CPU time

So if you moved my message how did my browser get "transported" to the topic where you moved it? The forum is database driven and is able to automagically redirect browsers to the correct post, even if the post is moved from one forum to another (a very useful feature). since my question ...

Re: File Export with Full Meta Data?

The format "WAV (Microsoft) PCM" is a type of "RIFF" file http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resource_Interchange_File_Format In the Microsoft specification for WAV files, metadata is not defined. There is no "standard" for metadata in WAV files. Audacity and some other progr...

Re: Audacity crashes if playing after a certain time point

Even with one track, the problem can occur if there are any "splits" in the track (ie, not one continuous track"). If there are splits in the track then I think that you can work round the problem by "joining" the sections prior to mixing/export (select the track and press C...

Re: Audacity crashes if playing after a certain time point

Today I was editing, going along just fine. I got to about 40 minutes in and then Audacity crashed. I reopened the application and was prompted about recovering from a crash; which I did. This is something that happens from time-to-time, so it didn't alarm me much. It dropped me in about 20 seconds...
