1) Open the Metadata Editor and enter the information that you want in your default template.

Normally you would set the number of channels in the Device Toolbar: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Device_Toolbar

Re: Gaps (dropouts) during recording audio stream
Roughly how long are those gaps? 1 second? 0.1 seconds? 10 seconds?
Is there any regularity to when they occur?
Are you listening to the radio stream during the recording? If so, is the sound continuous while you listen?
Does the problem also occur with a microphone recording?

Re: Feature Request: On opening older files
"I may trash the old file, shall I make a copy of it and open the copy?" The problem is that the 1.2.x project may include invalid data. If it does then if Audacity attempts to make a copy of the project the copy may be corrupted further and be totally useless. The safest approach is to m...

Re: Strange problem
That certainly shows the problem.
Check all of the items listed in "Why is my new track out of sync with the previous ones, or sounds crackly or at wrong pitch"

Re: Can I slow down for editing?
If you zoom in/out so that you can see a minute or two on screen, then you can watch the playback cursor while it plays. http://manual.audacityteam.org/manual/help/manual/man/zooming.html When you hear a blooper, press shift+A . This will stop the playback with the cursor at the place that playback ...

Re: Error on sliding time scale/pitch shift
It was the announcement of the end of XP (back in 2008) that prompted me to switch to Linux (and having seen and used later versions of Windows it's a move that I've not regretted).

Re: Freezing on playback
Perhaps we can find the cause by approaching it from the opposite direction. With that 16 track project, how much can you remove without fixing the problem? Does it always lock up in the same place? If it does, can you delete audio from before the lock up position and still have Audacity freeze? Can...

Re: Audacity Fade effects
No I don't think that linear fades should be replaced. I think they are such a basic and essential part of any audio editor that they will always be needed. I'd be more than happy to replace cross-fade in and cross-fade out, not least because the name suggests that they do something quite different ...
