Re: Audacity 2.x - More Resource Intensive?

hellosailor wrote:If I use 1.2.6 to create 44k/16bit WAV files, or use 2.x to make the same files, can I assume that the files "recorded" and exported from either version will be of identical quality?
For 16 bit, yes.
For 24 bit Audacity 2.x is better due to a minor bug in older versions of Audacity.

Re: No split option in edit

Are you looking at one of the tutorials on the Audacity web site? If so, please post a link so that it can be corrected. The shortcut for "Split" is Ctrl + I (letter "i") You will also find it in the "Edit menu > Clip Boundaries" You may also find this section of the ma...

Re: Default Values

But Normalize remembers and re-uses the previous value you set for peak amplitude. Ah yes, you're right there, but do you think that Normalize needs recoverable defaults? The "factory default" is pretty arbitrary, it could just as easily be 0, -0.5, -1, -2, -3 dB or any other preferred va...

Re: No recording from USB microphone pre-amp

You posted your question on the end of an old topic that was discussing the relative merits of different voice recording equipment. It was never going to get answered there so I've split it to a new topic and given it a relevant subject title. Recording from a USB pre-amp is pretty much the same as ...

Audacity uses Portaudio to access the computer sound system.
I can't give much more information as I'm not a programmer, but you will find information about Portaudio here: http://www.portaudio.com/

Re: Cleaning up extracted voices

"Melodyne" (by Celemony) has some of the best tools for isolating vocals, but it is still time consuming and it comes with a hefty price tag.

For free tools and techniques, see this article: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tuto ... _Isolation

Re: All speaker sound is being recorded.

In the Transport menu, "Overdub" should be on (selected) and "Software Playthrough" off (not selected). It sounds like your computer is recording "Stereo Mix" even though you say that the Realtek HD Audio Manager is set to record "Line In". :? Check in the &qu...

Re: Saving Changed Audio Speed To File, Is This Possible?

A note on terminology, Audacity never "Saves" the modified audio file, Audacity works in "projects". You make changes in the Audacity Project then "Export" an new (modified) audio file (such as a WAV file). If you apply any effect within a project (for example the "...

Thanks for the comment Stratocaster62, but credit where it is due, I got that fix from an earlier post by Gale.
The fix is now listed in the FAQ in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... -Ins#probs

Re: Make Dialog box sticky?

If you amplify to 0dB and any sample points do then sit at exactly 0dB, you will see red lines - but you will not yet have clipped the recording. That's true, but then we could get into arguments about "inter sample peaks" and the capabilities of DACs and so on. I prefer to normalize to a...
