and anyone could have replied with some feedback!, with all the people passing through here? So true, but the vast majority of those passing through are asking for help. If you or anyone else, while "passing through" notices a question that they can help with, they are most welcome to con...

Re: LP Rip with Distortion at the end of side one

your picture in the 'Holy smoke Batman' comment seems to be showing a time line at 43 minutes http://forum.audacityteam.org/download/file.php?id=5784 The window shows from approximately 43.05 to 43.17 seconds . The cursor is at 43.088 seconds. To see the glitches you will need to zoom in a lot clos...

Re: -26 dB mic level readings at dead silence [?]

"hardware" meaning usb mic right? You say that recording was made with a USB microphone, so yes, it is a fault/weakness/limitation (whichever you want to call it) of that USB microphone (or device driver, but more likely the microphone). Ideally there should be no DC offset, but in practi...

Re: Edit Meta Data; Can't clear?!

That sounds weird. Let me add in some sub-steps: 1) Ensure that all instances of Audacity are closed. 2) Open Audacity 3) File > Metadata Editor 4) Click "Clear" 5) Click "Set Default" 6) Click "OK" 7a) Click on the "File" menu 7b) Click on "Exit" (b...

Re: Beginner-itis - Saving a chosen portion of an mp3

Getting that "finger" to appear can be quite tricky as the pointer needs to be quite precisely on the edge of the selection. Fortunately there is a much easier way, though it requires using one of your own fingers ;) Hold down the shift button with one hand. Now click with the mouse somewh...

Re: Edit Meta Data; Can't clear?!

There's a couple of possibilities. Try these steps exactly: 1) Ensure that all instances of Audacity are closed. 2) Open Audacity 3) File > Metadata Editor 4) Click "Clear" 5) Click "Set Default" 6) Click "OK" 7) Close Audacity. 8) Open Audacity 9) File > Metadata Edito...

Re: Automatically adding track silence

When you use Sound Finder, you can specify how much silence is included before and after the detected sound. It is the "Label Starting Point" and "Label Ending Point" settings that do this. If you wish to retain all of the silence between sounds, use the "Silence Finder"...

Re: -26 dB mic level readings at dead silence [?]

Your hardware suffers from DC Offset
The recorded waveform should be centred on the centre line.
