Re: Envelope Tool vs. Hard Limiter

I'd not use the "Leveller" effect for adjusting dynamics. It adds far too much distortion for normal use (though it can be useful as a distortion effect).
The best choice of limiter depends on the kind of job you're doing, but we don't know what that is.

Re: output level as reflected in wav form

You can probably increase your recording level so that it is a little higher than the first picture. -6 dB is just a guide - the important thing is to stay clear of 0 dB at all times during the recording. The second picture is a bit too high as a recording level (it looks like it's touching the bott...

Re: VST Files scanning at start up v2.0.1

Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Effects"
Remove the tick from VST option in the "Enable Effects" section.

Re: Audacity file said to be missing audio

Try selecting the second option: "Treat missing audio as silence (this session only)", then click "OK". The project should then open, but some, or all of the audio may just be silence. If there is enough of the project working to be worth saving, go to the "File menu" a...

Re: Audacity file said to be missing audio

So you're trying to open a project called "class.aup" and there is a folder called "class_data".
If you right click on the "class_data" folder and select "Properties", how many files and folders does it say are in there and what is the total size?

Re: Export

Is anything else in the File menu greyed out?

What sort of file did you import?
Does the file play in Audacity?

Ensure that playback is stopped and not paused.

Re: VST Plug-ins

So ime planning on bying about 8 of them and get a cheap 8 channel mixer You may not need to go as far as that. Micing up every drum is one way to record a kit, but very good results are possible with just one for the kick and one overhead. Keith Moon made some classic recordings with just three mi...

Re: Audacity file said to be missing audio

Files don't (or shouldn't) just disappear off a hard drive. If they do then the hard drive is probably broken. Unless you are finding that other files are also disappearing I doubt that is the problem, which leaves us with the question - what happened, what changed? We don't know the answer to that....
