The crackles are caused by occasional "skipping". It is not skipping by much, but enough to cause audible clicks in the recording.
Have a look here for some possible causes and solutions: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... ting#skips

Re: Newer codec versions
I'm not aware of any changes to LAME since 3.98.2 that offer any improvements for Audacity on Mac OS X. There was an issue with FhG V1.5 build 50 that ships with MS Windows, so there may be some marginal benefit in using 3.99.3 on Windows though I'm not certain that this issue affects Audacity at al...

Re: High Pitched Fluctuating Interference - Any ideas?
Would there be anyway to remove the sound from the existing files? Very difficult because it is a (widely) changing frequency. I just did two tests there without power running to the laptop, and there was none of the interference. It is not uncommon to get interference from laptop power supplies, b...

I'm a little confused as the screen that I think you are looking on does not have an "OK" button. Could you post a screen shot.SB79 wrote:hitting the "OK"-Button does not have any effect

Re: High Pitched Fluctuating Interference - Any ideas?
We have made recordings in different buildings with the same equipment to record concerts etc, and though the sound has been present in parts ... So you are saying that, with the same equipment in a different location, the interferences was still present (though less noticeable against the music)? ...

Re: High Pitched Fluctuating Interference - Any ideas?
Thanks for the sample. I've trimmed it down to a 2 second extract which is sufficient to illustrate the problem and not pose a problem regarding copyright. If you want the clip removing altogether I'll be happy to do so, but I think that it would be useful to keep it on-line for a little while as ot...

Re: How do I hear the Export mix?
(for clarity I've corrected the track numbering in my earlier example) The "size" of this issue is difficult to quantify. It would appear to be relatively minor from the very few reports about this issue. On the other hand I think that the behaviour is widely not understood, to the extent ...

Re: Can I record with web cam device?
Our Logitech webcams show up on the Sound Device listings of our computers as an available microphone. This works with some web cams but not all web cams. If the device shows up as an available recording device in the Windows Sound settings, then you're in business. If it does not show up even afte...

Re: Crackle on recording
The microphone is plugged directly into a serial port on the laptop. Do you mean the "USB" port? What is the make/model of the microphone? Could you post a short audio sample in WAV or FLAC format to illustrate the problem (See here for how to post an audio sample: http://forum.audacityte...
