Re: Silence when recording streaming audio from headphones

Before I do that I suppose I'll send a message to VAC's support to see if there's a way of removing those devices. That's worth a try. I'd suggest creating a restore point before messing with the drivers/uninstalling VAC. If you're short of disk space you can remove the restore point when you are s...

Re: "Sorry, Plug-in Effects cannot be performed..." notice

Try selecting the track, then "Tracks menu > Mix and Render". This will "render" the track to the current project rate and place the track at the bottom, below any other tracks. Then apply the Reverb effect.

Re: Recording from cassette player- only get humming noise

I have a number of books on tape recorded years ago by a family member, which I am hoping to preserve in electronic format. Before going onto your question, one thing to keep in mind regarding long term archiving. CDs don't last forever, and even if they did there will probably not be CD players fo...

Re: Cant d/l 2 of the Nyquist plugins for some reason

If you want to compare the new "Narrowband Noise" effect with the old Noiseband effect, the old effect is available here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Nyquist_Plug-in_Packs_and_Legacy_Plug-ins#Noise_Band (I've fixed the bug that caused the error message). Note that the "legacy&qu...

Re: Not recognizing any playback or recording options

I thought that might be the problem. If Audacity is compiled without ALSA support then you won't be able to use ALSA or Jack. You are probably missing libasound2-dev On Debian based distributions, the easiest way to install all dependencies for Audacity is: sudo apt-get build-dep audacity ("res...

Re: How to mark spots on audio file to fast forward to

MP3, like most other "normal" audio formats, does not support bookmarks. This is one of the main reasons that they use a special proprietary format for audio books. What you can do, is to export the audio as multiple shorter files. These shorter files can then be played in sequence on an M...

Topic split as it does not really relate to the previous post.

Audacity projects are not sound files. See here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/au ... jects.html

Re: Exporting 96khz file as 192khz

Yes. I'd also suggest testing recording at sample rates lower than 192 kHz. If possible, get someone to help you do a double blind A/B test. Higher numbers are not always better - it is quite common for A/D D/A converters to work better (more accurately) at more modest sample rates than at very high...

Re: Exporting 96khz file as 192khz

There should be no audible difference between exporting as 192, 96 or 48 kHz. The sound may play a little better at 96 or 48 kHz as the DAC is not being stressed and has longer to accurately convert from digital to analogue. Below 48 kHz you may notice a slight dulling of the sound. Above 48 kHz, an...
