Re: Enabling input devices.
SoundLeech is currently free (even though it is listed as "evaluation"). The interface is a little bit strange but it worked well when I tested it.

Re: Help understanding Sampling Rates in Windows 7
The short answer is that the default settings in Audacity should work well. The longer answer: It is generally advisable to set the sampling rate the same in both Windows and Audacity, though Audacity should be able to cope if they are different. Audacity requests data from the sound system accordin...

Re: Silence when recording streaming audio from headphones
Maybe it's something grossly simple that I'm overlooking, That might well be the case, but if so, I'm overlooking it too. There is an alternative approach that you could take when you're tired of banging your head on walls: The "evaluation" version of SoundLeach is still experimental (bet...

Re: Professional sounding fade out.
From my observations on the forum, the greatest demand (by far) is for some sort of "more versatile fade" effect. Specifically, one that has: Partial fade - fade to/from a level other than silence. Some fade shape options. These are also the features that I find most useful. As a "gen...

Re: Narrowband Noise
I believe identical left and right channels in a stereo track is properly described as "dual mono" That's what I would call it, but not sure how obvious that would be. or those who have a stereo track to begin with, isn't choosing "1" audio channels and getting two channels (or ...

Re: My Effects Menu Is Too Long
You could remove (make unavailable) any plug-in effects that you don't use. To do that, find the folder where the plug-ins are installed, then move unwanted plug-ins into a sub-folder and they won't be seen by Audacity. On Windows you can "jump" to plug-in names by opening the effect menu ...
