Is the USB device plugged in?
Was the USB device plugged in before you opened Audacity? If not, try "Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices".

In digital audio clipping always mean distortion. Clipping should be avoided like the plague. A good recording level is about half the track height (-6 dB). You can use "Normalize" to increase the level after you have finished recording. This guide will probably be useful: http://manual.au...

Generally best and easiest way to hear what you are playing is to use headphones in the headphone socket of the unit. When you do that are you able to hear both what you are recording and other tracks playing in Audacity (assuming that you have Audacity set to play through the UCG in the Device Too...

I have a nice AT2020 XLR mic that plugs into a Yamaha MG102c mixer. From there it heads into Tascam USB Audio Interface via a 1/4 inch cable. I missed that bit. The AT2020 is a condenser microphone and requires 48v phantom power. It must be plugged into a 3 pin XLR socket that has phantom power. A ...
