What is it that you want to record?

Are you talking about recording sounds that are playing on your computer using "Stereo Mix"?
If so, have you disabled the computer microphone input?

Re: Cassette tape to laptop hardware?

I'm wondering why the usb option in the device dropdown called 'microphone' usb audio codec? The USB audio chip that is used in the Behringer is also used in some USB microphones. Windows "sees" the chip (PCM2902), not what the device actually is. Unfortunately this may mean that Windows ...

Re: Can Audacity restore my mutilated vocal recording?

The problem seems to be due to a combination of factors: Excessive noise in the original recording (the root of the problem) Excessive noise reduction (to try and cope with (1) Excessive dynamics compression (may have been applied as an effect to "even out" the volume, but has also increas...

Re: Audio effect options randomly disappear

Which version of Audacity? (look in "Help > About Audacity") Is this the only version of Audacity that you have installed? Have you tried resetting the Audacity preferences? (the easiest way to do that is to re-run the installation program and select the option to reset preferences when it...

Re: Unable to record because of a discontinuing sound.

Could you post a screen shot of what the "capture" (recording) settings look like in your Audio Properties.

Also, see if you can find the name of that virus.

Re: Audacity freezes and stops responding when I edit record

What I normally do with long recordings is to split them into smaller sections, say up to an hour duration. I find that this makes everything more responsive and quicker because the computer is not required to manage such a huge amount of data. You can export part of a track by selecting (say half) ...

Re: Unable to record because of a discontinuing sound.

I'd like to add Avast recently detected a Win32 virus that had infected some "volume controller" files (I'm really not an expert, so I prefer to mention it). I put them in quarantine, but I read the best was to destroy them to get rid of this virus. Do you think there could be a link betw...

Re: Audacity freezes and stops responding when I edit record

I would certainly recommend exporting a back-up WAV file immediately after recording. Back-ups are a waste of time.... until you need one. The problem is that every time I try to edit my recordings, it freezes for 5-10 seconds and stops responding. I'm trying to get a clear picture of what is happen...

Re: Audacity freezes and stops responding when I edit record

Are you sure that you are using the same work-flow as before? Do you record the track then immediately start editing it? Do you record the track, export a backup WAV file, then start editing the track? Do you record the track, export it as a WAV file, close Audacity and then at a later time, import ...
