The problem with many computer microphones is not the microphone itself, but the (usually rubbish) quality of the microphone input. An inexpensive (around $20 Internet price) USB desktop microphone (such as this: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/webcam-communications/microphones/usb-desktop-microphone)...

when i cut up a track using "repeat" or lay one track over another on audacity, it oftens produces clicks. This problem is usually caused by the waveform "not matching up" where the audio repeats, so zoomed in very close you may see a "discontinuity" as below (see here...

Thanks for letting us know the outcome. Avast does not normally interfere with Audacity, though I guess it could do if you have it set for high security. If you configure Avast to ignore ".AU" files and not to run any scheduled scans while you are working, then it will probably leave Audac...

What sort of thumps? Your description suggests that there is still a microphone enabled - do you have a web cam with a microphone or any other microphone enabled?lvpeat wrote: it records the hiss, thumps etc.

You may be getting some strangeness due to a conflict of versions overwriting each others preferences file.
You should not need a separate version for paulstretch as it is included in Audacity 2.0.2
