Only apply dither on export
As Audacity is due soon receive the first audio quality upgrade in many years it is probably a good time to raise another issue regarding sound quality - Dither. This question falls into two areas: When to apply dither. What sort of dither to apply. This feature request concerns the first - when to ...

Re: WHAT YOU HEAR
"What U Hear" was the term used by Creative Labs for their SoundBlaster cards. It means the same as "Stereo Mix" (the term used by most other sound card manufacturers) for recording whatever is playing through the sound card. This feature is dependent on the sound card and the so...

Re: Can't turn playthrough off when recording
As you have said that you have checked that "Software Playthrough" is off (not selected) in Audacity (Transport menu), then the feedback must be coming from somewhere else. I'm not an expert on the Windows sound system (I rarely use Windows these days), but I believe that Windows sometimes...

Re: Can it record streaming IN/OUT audio simultaneously ?
to record the audio in both directions simultaneously, that does include Skype or any other VOIP activity, but preferably excludes OS System sounds. That's a lot clearer. Audacity records from the OS sound system (Windows, Mac or Unix like). It can record whatever the the sound system sends to it. ...

Re: Audacity records at wrong clock rate
You would probably be best to use the release version - the source code is available here: http://code.google.com/p/audacity/downloads/detail?name=audacity-minsrc-2.0.2.tar.bz2&can=2&q=linux Now that you have successfully built Audacity once, building it again should be easy. I'd suggest tha...

Re: Using 'Custom' setting to Export in 6 Channels...
In both cases I got the nice diagram showing the 6 channels going directly to 6 channels. And it shows lines connecting the audio tracks to the audio file channels as im this diagram? http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/advanced_mixing_options.html An easy way to test your exported file - try impo...

Re: Can't turn playthrough off when recording
Let's see if I understand the symptoms correctly:Ekosonic wrote:I still get the delay.
When you press record and play the guitar, you hear your playing echoing back through your headphones, but a bit delayed (1/2 a second? more? less?)
Does that describe the fault?

Re: Can't turn playthrough off when recording
Plug your speakers into the headphone socket of the Zoom, but be careful - The H2 has an option to monitor the live input (I guess the H4 has also) - if you have that enabled ensure that the zoom microphones are disabled before you plug in the speakers otherwise you will get howling feedback.

Re: Can't turn playthrough off when recording
This works with the H2 and will probably work with the H4 also. First, you shouldn't be using speakers when recording as the microphone will pick it up and produce a hollow echoey sound or feedback. Use headphones. Plug the headphones into the Zoom. Audacity Transport menu > Software Playthrough off...

Re: Can it record streaming IN/OUT audio simultaneously ?
My understanding of pc's is the basic Windows OS, as do most others, supports a basic, even mono, audio input/output - I think in the telephony market called 'full-duplex'. That is what I want to record, and preferably as well as Freecorder does, where it is efficient in not wasting filespace recor...
