Playing MIDI files is not yet supported.
One of the developers is working on it as and when he has time to do so, but I expect we will be waiting quite a long time for this feature to appear.

A cursor and a selection can't co-exist, so you mean e.g Pictures probably help: Say I've made an approximate selection: region.png Then to adjust the start position precisely I zoom in on the start: zoom-left.png I now want to adjust the end of the selection, so I press [some keyboard combination]...

maybe this is not surprising as I like to hear a fair amount of what is being faded in right from the start of the cross fade. I'm a bit surprised that you're not getting that. The "fade curve" that is used in this fade is the "Cross Fade In" / "Cross Fade Out" effect ...
