Re: New at this. Got a sound to silence.
The Vocal Remover effect is described here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/vocal_remover.html Basically what it does is to "invert" (turn upside down) the waveform in one audio channel then add (mix) it with the other channel, thus cancelling out any signals that are identical in bot...

Re: New at this. Got a sound to silence.
My mind tells me that I just want to remove the data on the right channel, as well as find that same data on the left channel and just remove it. If you are really lucky, the "Vocal Remover" effect my do the job (default settings). If it doesn't then I think there are no other options oth...

Re: Edit > Labelled Regions
Some points of general agreement first: I don't even think it's consistent (or at least, intuitive) as it is now. If Labeled Regions > Split splits touching labels, I would think the intuitive thing is for Labeled Regions > Join to join touching labels so they are no longer individual clips. +1 I st...

Re: Recording from a microphone and from skype- please help!
I've just tried Pamela Basic (free version). Recording time is limited to 15 minutes per call but it does record both sides of the conversation. There is a nag screen to ask if you want to buy the full version at the end of every recording. There was an "option" to install the "Ask To...

Set the recording input in the Device Toolbar to the external mic (not "Stereo Mix")

Re: Running a plug-in once only
On the other hand, if I try some code and there's an error, I frequently end up with some sound that I surely did not want to be placed there (sigh). I think that only occurs if there is an error that does not cause the plug-in code to terminate "and" there was a sound returned by the las...

Re: Spectrogram overlap?
it seems that the overlap might actually be 100% I wasn't sure how to specify the % overlap, so I looked on-line. The references that I found said that overlapping by half a window is 50%. This would men that the first half of any window (other than the first) overlaps the latter half of the previo...

Re: distortion recording voice
Clips 1 and 3 (microphone generic) has repeated short bursts of noise creating a "motorboat" effect. This is probably because some part of the computer cannot keep up with the amount of audio data. Clips 2 and 4 have worked "perfectly" - the "only" problem there is that...

I read that I should go to Edit >> Settings You may have been reading documentation for the old (obsolete) Audacity 1.2.x series. In Audacity 2.x the MP3 settings are within the Export dialogue - click on the "Options" button. (see here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/file_export_di...

Re: Can't turn playthrough off when recording
Meanwhile here is the screenshot of the menu I was talking about. I would have expected that menu selection to have no effect as long as "Listen to this device" is not selected. There should be a similar screen to that for the H4 recording input device. Check that "Listen to this dev...
