I checked and I'm running Audacity v2.0.2 Good. (though you posted in the 1.3.x forum). How can I check if it's writable? Try creating or moving a file to that folder. and I think the Temp Folder is where it's supposed to be (C:UsersSamAppDataLocalTempaudacity_temp). and you are logged into Windows...

Generally "Joint Stereo" gives better results than "Stereo" because it allows more bits for better stereo when it is needed whereas "Stereo" produces 2 channels, even if the left and right channels are identical. VBR is generally the best quality option because it allow...

AUP is not an audio file.
To create a WAV file, use "File menu > Export".

A good and easy to use compressor is "Chris’s Dynamic Compressor" http://theaudacitytopodcast.com/chriss-dynamic-compressor-plugin-for-audacity/ You will probably want to increase the "Ratio" setting to about 0.8. Or there is an "Automatic Gain Control" type effect here...
