Re: recording, music

I still can't see your computer ;)
Please describe your set-up in detail and describe what you are doing and what is happening.

I see that it has come back to haunt me :D

I'll have a look and see if I can make it a bit more elegant (and fix the bug) ;)

Re: Question about MIDI controllers

Audacity does not support recording or playing MIDI. To connect the MIDI keyboard to a computer you may need a MIDI interface, although some MIDI keyboards use USB. If you need a MIDI interface, quite a few (inexpensive) sound cards have a MIDI interface built in. Alternatively, you could use a stan...

Re: Recording starts off too quiet

It's probably due to one of the Windows "Enhancements". See here how to turn off the "Enhancements" http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ: ... hancements

Re: Export to MP3 is slow

Audacity may be able to use fpMP3Enc as an external encoder. See: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/ex ... ogram.html
(I've not tried it myself).

Re: Export to MP3 is slow

According to the test results here: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ind ... ntry746331
128 kbps CBR is the slowest MP3 encoding for LAME.

Probably, but there's about 160,000 code lines in Audacity - it's not a small job.

Re: Recording vinyl at 24-bit 96khz

Unlike some, let me address your question. I have an ASUS board with ALC892 and VinylStudio reports that, while it is capable of 192/24 output, the maximum recording sampling depth is 16-bit. Creative Audigy cards will record at 96/24. For much better quality M-Audio has a couple of cards under $10...

Probably not because Audacity does not support multiple CPU cores.

What MP3 settings are you using? VBR settings are likely to be a bit quicker than CBR.
