Re: Merging 3 Audio Streams
Make lots of backups as you go. When an Audacity Project is closed all of the Undo History is deleted. The only way "back" to a previous state after closing a project is if you have an earlier backup. Murphy's Law states: Programs become more unstable as the amount of work that could be lo...

Re: Merging 3 Audio Streams
The WAV file is sampled at 44,1000 Hz, so I have to open it in a new Audacity window and resample to 48,000 Hz You don't need to do that bit. Audacity can handle a mixture of sample rates. Set the "Project Rate" (bottom left corner of the main Audacity window) to the sample rate that you ...

Re: Audio/Video Transcription Software
My greatest problem is that I have no idea, where I am when I am navigating through the labels because the screenreader does not read the current label. Thus I have to press play to be oriented. Exactly - and as soon as you come out of the label so that you can play (from the keyboard), focus on th...

Re: Audio/Video Transcription Software
It really depends on what you want to do or achieve, there are a bunch of possible behaviours ponderable. I've been pondering  The problem that I keep coming up against is that navigating labels via the keyboard is so limited. I really think this needs improving - for example, being able to j...

Re: Gain and balance don't work!
I could be mistaken but I am sure that last time I did some home recording a few years ago, again in Ubuntu with Audacity, that these controls did what I logically assumed they should. A memory trick :) Audacity has always recorded straight in from the computer sound system. No real time recording ...

Re: Audacity locking up computer?
Audacity, is locking up the computer while recording. That's what I was trying to ask in the first reply ;) What are you recording? Your voice with a USB microphone? Sound playing on YouTube? A mixing desk plugged into an m-audio Fast Track Pro firewire interface?.... Too much detail is better than...

That's inconclusive then.IndyWolf wrote:The ones that didn't lock up, play fine. I didn't recover the ones that locked up.
What web browser are you using (including version)?
It's possible that something on the web page with those podcasts is causing the problem - are they using "Flash" ?

Re: Audacity locking up computer?
Does the podcast play OK if Audacity is not running?
Are you doing anything else on the computer at the same time?
Have you disabled "sleep" and "hibernation" in the computer power management?

Re: Merging 3 Audio Streams
Does that sound like a reasonable plan? Yes it does. You will probably want to "crossfade" rather than simple cut/paste edits. I have started a wiki page about crossfading that you may find helpful: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/User:Stevethefiddle/Fade_and_Cross_Fade#How_to_Crossfade...
