The boom box should be connected with an appropriate audio cable to the "Line In" of your computer. Note that many laptop computers do not have a "line in" connection. In some cases laptop computers have a combined "line in" and "mic in" socket, so it may work...

Check that the Project Rate (lower left corner of the main Audacity window) is set to a "standard" setting - if in doubt, set it to 44100.
If that is not the problem, please describe step by step how you are exporting and what exactly you mean by "not readable by my computer".

"32 bit float" is the format that Audacity uses internally. It is an extremely high quality format. If you export as "32 bit float" (WAV or AIFF) then the exported file will be identical to the Audacity track. You do not need to turn off dither. Export > Import > Export > Import ...

Your recording level is too high. Adjust the recording level so that the blue wiggly waveform is about half the height of the track. After you have recorded, use the Amplify effect to bring the level up a bit. That will improve the sound quality.

You may be able to make some slight improvement with the Equalization effect, but really there's not much that you can do other than record it again. :(

Your sound card may have its own control panel (quite common with on board sound cards) and the control panel may have its own "enhancements" such as automatic gain control, echo cancellation, noise reduction... If it has, you need to turn them off.
