Re: newbie, help please (DJ mix)
does any body know how to crossfade and cut while recording dj mix :?: You should really start a new topic rather than tagging onto the end of a 4 year old topic. Audacity does not do real time processing. If you are recording the output of a DJ mixer then it will record whatever crossfades and cut...

Re: Mic doesn't work?
It sounds like it may be a problem with the mic.
First thing, try rebooting the computer.
If that does not fix it, can you try the mic on a different computer?

Re: How close is Audacity to Adobe Audition?
In my previous job I used Adobe Audition, Logic, ProTools. Cubase, but mostly I used Audacity. For the most jobs I found that I could get the job done quicker and more easily in Audacity. For big multi-track projects I used ProTools, and when I really needed real-time effects I used Audition. When I...

Please transfer the initial request (A proper "Limiter" effect) to Wiki>PFR and then archive the topic so that I can use it in a proposal (in due course).

Re: normalize and amplify
The Audacity compressor effect is effective but very quirky and not at all easy to understand exactly what it is doing. 1) "Make up gain for 0dB": I would suggest that you normalize to 0 dB before applying compression. This will make it easier to see where to set the threshold level. Apply...

Re: normalize and amplify
I remember not being sure what the difference in "levelling" was compared to "compressing" in the effects menu. The "Leveller" effect is a quick an dirty (very dirty) effect for reducing the dynamic range. It is actually a type of "distortion" effect (a "...

Re: How much RAM can Audacity address in Windows 7?
Audacity generally uses very little RAM. I don't think that I've ever seen Audacity use more than 2 GB of RAM and I've worked on some pretty big projects. I use Debian Linux with 3 GB of RAM of which there is usually about 2.5 GB free. Modern versions of Windows need more RAM than this, especially i...
