Seriously, that is the way to get "zero latency monitoring" of the live input.
You can turn on "Software Playthrough" (in the Transport menu) to monitor from your computer, but that is likely to have so much delay that it is unusable for live recording.

Re: Why is Audacity not taking input from this device?
You're welcome. It's good to know that the IO4 does work on Linux. We don't often get to hear which multi-channel devices work with Audacity, particularly not on Linux. Perhaps if you have time you could post a short review of the IO4 in this topic: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&a...

Re: First half of project abruptly missing
There is no 64 bit version?? No, there is no 64 bit version. That quote is only about the format of the stored samples: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Recording_length#Recordings_over_13.5_hours It is not referring to a "64 bit application" or "64 bit version". Audacity is a ...

Re: Recording from Digitech RP500 sounds broken
One other thing, very occasionally I get the problem that my USB sound card just does not run nicely. A reboot fixes it (probably just logging out and in again would do the same).

Re: Recording from Digitech RP500 sounds broken
What am I doing wrong? Probably nothing. When you get a bad bit like that, have a really close look at it (zoom in really close) and see if there are tiny bits missing in the recording. If there are, then the problem is almost certainly the USB. USB was not designed for continuous time critical dat...

Re: First half of project abruptly missing
When did the audio disappear? Did you save the project and then reopen it, or is that immediately after stopping the recording? Which version of Audacity do you have? (Look in "Help > About Audacity") i thought the 13.5 hour limit applied the the 32 bit version only There is only a 32 bit ...

Re: How to select audio
I try to select part of the track as per http://audacityteam.org/manual- ... ign_1.html. That is the old (obsolete) Audacity 1.2 manual. The current manual for Audacity 2.x is here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/ If you installed Audacity 2.x with the recommended installer, there will also be lo...
