According to the Black Box manual, basic functionality should be available without loading any drivers. Let's leave Audacity out of the equation for the moment and look at the Windows setup. I would do. The WAV file is your high quality backup and the MP3 is ready for loading onto the MP3 player.

It's actually quite a small change in the code to make the envelopes linear.
I guess that the argument against doing so is that anyone that has saved projects with envelopes, it will change their envelopes and so damage their projects.
