Many of the translations of Audacity are incomplete. It could have broken my audio device? Are you forserious? "break" in the sense that the sound card might stop working altogether, then you would probably need to clear out all the sound card drivers (on XP you can do this by removing the drivers in Safe Mode - I've not tried this in later...

You could try alternative software for recording sound that is playing on the computer, for example Total Recorder (commercial) and SoundLeech (currently free) do not require "Stereo Mix" for recording sounds that are playing on the computer. There's some other ideas here: http://wiki.auda...

So this was basically my last resort. But if installing new drivers doesn't work, you can always revert back to the way things were earlier, or make a back up of existing ones. Though I was a little uncomfortable trying a different set of drivers, it all worked out. Good news ;) Thanks for letting ...

If you prefer to use the mouse you can double click on audio to select it - if there is just one audio clip (audio segment) in the track then it will select the entire track - if there are multiple separate audio clips then double clicking will select only the audio clip that you double click on..
