Do you have the "Adjust labels to fit" option selected?
If you do, then the duration between each label will be adjusted (if necessary) to fit the selected length.

The poor sound is probably a combination of factors. For a good quality recording you need to use a good microphone, reasonable sound card, and the microphone needs to be positioned appropriately to pick up the sound of the keyboard. Try turning off "Software Playthrough" in the Transport menu.
