Re: hp mininote and audacity
Having a quick look at the mini-note specification, it seems that the microphone socket is what it says - a "microphone" socket, thus not suitable for connecting a headphone output to it. Even if you do manage to get it working with the mic socket I'd not be surprised if the recording qual...

Re: Nyquist Wish List
Thanks for the suggestions Paul. My idea might require a fourth category, perhaps called Find, so it's radical. There has previously been a suggestion of a "Tools" or "Utilities" menu (and in fact there was once a "Tools" menu in an old beta version of Audacity, but it ...

Re: Making Dance Mix CD
1) Get your audio tracks. Use a CD ripper (such as CDex ) to "rip" the CD tracks to WAV files (don't use MP3 - that reduces the sound quality). Note about naming files - to avoid problems later, use only letters, numbers, space, underscore and hyphen in file names. Avoid using any other sy...

Re: exporting wav to ulaw
The test_goldwave file worked The test_audacity or the test_audacity_default files did not work. The only obvious difference that I see is that the Audacity 8000 Hz uLaw file has metadata and the Goldwave version doesn't. Try clearing the Metadata in Audacity (File menu > Open Metadata Editor, then...

Re: Sample rate and a very, very loud hiss sound
I presume that the noise goes onto the recording? Try this: 1) Go into the Windows Sound Control Panel and set the USB device as the default recording device. 2) Open up the Windows Sound Recorder and make a test recording from the cassette. Does that have the noise? If not: 3) Open Audacity and set...

Re: Punch Copy/Paste
Gale Andrews wrote:"Before" and "Mix" suggested in that link would also be very useful. surely you would just click and paste rather than "Select -> Paste > Special > Before"? It could be useful for pasting before fixed points like labels or split lines. OK, I see what...

Re: PC crashed, audacity won't start now
When it crashed Audacity may have left its "lock file" behind. The default location for temporary Audacity files is /var/tmp/audacity- <username> / (where <username> is your user name). If that directory is present, look in there for a file called audacity-lock- <username> If it's there: F...

Re: Stereo Recording (Only One Channel Working)
I'm trying to record in stereo from my new digital piano, but Audacity is only recording in the left channel! I have two cables connected to the L and R outputs on the piano; those are then hooked up to a Stereo Y cable, which I've connected to the Line In on my computer..... When I change the cabl...

Re: Changed behavior of graphic equalization in 2.0.3
Not good news for blind users either as they won't be able to see the clues of when it has gone wrong.
In fact, not good news for anyone.
Fortunately at least part of the cause is known, so it should be fixable, though probably beyond my very limited abilities in C++ to fix.

Re: Sample rate and a very, very loud hiss sound
I presume that so far you have stopped the recording immediately (before actually trying to record anything) - am I right? What I suspect is happening: For some reason, Windows seems to often set the record level of USB devices way too high, and it is often necessary to turn down the recording level...
