Re: MP3 Exports in a Chain

As a suggestion, it might be useful in writing chains if there were a down-sample (or re-sample) command available. I've added your vote to this feature request: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Feature_Requests#Improvements_to_the_.22Chains.22_.28batch_processing.29_feature Export sample rate (20...

Re: Query on Microsoft SoundMapper Input/Installation

Well we've solved that puzzle, but it does not help with your original question of why the Sound Mapper sounds better than directly selecting "Line In". Have you checked that the Windows "Enhancements" are all turned off? http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/FAQ:Recording_-_Trouble...

Re: Query on Microsoft SoundMapper Input/Installation

I forgot to mention the genius usb webcam. Ah, that could be it. This probably isn't relevant to your original question, but it's good to get a clear picture of what is going on. If you disconnect the web cam and restart Audacity (or use "Transport menu > Rescan Audio Devices") does the U...

Does your camera have a microphone?
If you disconnect the camera and then restart Audacity, is the USB option still there?

Re: How to decrease volume of a music file?

That's a shame. In that case, Import the file into Audacity (File menu > Import > Audio"), then apply the Amplify effect (Effect menu). Enter a negative number to amplify the audio by. As a rough guide, amplifying by between -6 dB and -10 dB will be about half volume. If you are not happy with ...

Re: 55 min sermon only got. 2 min.

Hard to say. Perhaps they used "Export Selection" instead of "Export".
Is there plenty of free disk space on the computer?

Re: 55 min sermon only got. 2 min.

Unfortunately no. When closing a project, if the project has not been saved there is a warning asking if you want to save the project. If you select to not save the project, the temporary files that contain the audio data are deleted and can not be recovered.

Re: How to decrease volume of a music file?

Do you know (or can you find out) if your teleconference system supports "Replay Gain"?
If it does, then you can use programs such as iTunes, or Foobar2000 to adjust the ReplayGain level, which alters the playback level without any loss of sound quality.

Re: Query on Microsoft SoundMapper Input/Installation

I'm a bit puzzled by this. I don't use Windows very often, but as far as I'm aware, if you really are using "Line in", the recording quality should be just as good as using Line in via the Microsoft Sound Mapper. Perhaps you have not selected what you think you have selected. Could you lis...
