Yes, this is one of my efforts.
Thanks for the feedback - I'm glad you find it useful.
Yes, mp3directcut is a useful tool for trimming MP3s.
There is also Mp3splt which can split MP3s (an Ogg files) losslessly http://mp3splt.sourceforge.net

Re: newbie recording
Is this on a Windows PC? Unless your sound card provides a way of directly monitoring the input, you will not be able to monitor the live input while recording without an annoying delay. In the absence of direct (hardware) monitoring it is necessary to record without hearing the live mic input throu...

Re: Automatic silence finder + name finder
I'm hoping to be able to make some improvements to Sound Finder / Silence Finder, but song recognition is not part of what I have planned. MusicBrainz Picard uses a number of characteristics to identify songs, one of which is the track length. Unless you have extracted (ripped) the tracks one track ...

Sample Data Export can be modified so that it is an "Effect" plug-in rather than an "Analyze" plug-in. Nyquist "Effect" plug-ins can be used in "Chains". Edit Chains: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/edit_chains.html Apply Chain: http://manual.audacityteam...

I'm not sure what you are asking - are you having difficulty making an audio CD? If so, perhaps this tutorial will help: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/bu ... _a_cd.html

Re: stop-and-set-cursor: cursor moves too far
Using Audacity with Jack Audio System (Linux) the latency before stopping is just a few milliseconds - a lot more accurate than I can tap the keyboard.Robert J. H. wrote:I wonder how your values would be with an ASIO Version of Audacity.

Re: stop-and-set-cursor: cursor moves too far
You're unlikely to get much closer than about +/- 10 ms accuracy from tapping on a keyboard (probably worse). If you have set up "latency correction" as described here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/latency_test.html you will probably find that the delay before stop is about the sam...

Re: Which brand Microphone is suggested
At the other end of the scale is the Logitec USB desktop microphone - it's among the best for sound quality in its price range (about $15). When working out your budget, allow a bit for a " pop shield " and microphone stand. If you want a conventional microphone rather than a USB microphon...

Re: stop-and-set-cursor: cursor moves too far
Reducing the "Latency : Audio to buffer" setting seems to reduce the delay, but don't reduce it too much or audio playback will not work properly.
