Re: Vibration measurements

Audacity does not automatically scale the waveform (though you can easily do so with the Amplify effect). Audio data is just a series of "sample values" (if you zoom in really close on the waveform of an Audacity audio track you will see the individual "dots" (samples). The absol...

Re: USB Audio CODEC unavailable

MIDI is not sound - it is control data.
Audacity is an "audio" editor - it works with "sound".

Re: Please everyone do the following very easy test?

So with your other non-Jack configurations, you will get a latency variation up to +/-10ms! Yes, but usually within a couple of milliseconds. +/- 10 ms is the maximum (well actually about 8.5 ms).In absolute terms 10 ms is not very much but could sound slightly out. Get 3 good drummers to hit their...

Irregular Click Track

How far out does a regular rhythm need to be to noticeably sound like it is out of time? This bit of code creates a "regular" click at the specified tempo, but the exact time of each beat is shifted by a small random amount. Note: THIS IS NOT A COMPLETEPLUG-IN (though it could easily be c...

Re: Please everyone do the following very easy test?

I'm on Linux, which offers choices of different sound servers. The default sound system on this machine is PulseAudio, which is a general purpose sound system that supports multiple applications and multiple sound cards (even networked sound cards). I also have 2 sound cards - an internal "on b...

Re: Preliminary "Phoneme finder" toy

What did you say? no idea, whatever came into my head at the time - just some random words with a selection of different phonemes. The "BDGM" lable track was with your suggested settings: " It seems 90% below 750 Hz is pretty good to separate b, d, g, m, n, ng from the rest." Th...

Re: Latency Rate Changes Each Time I Record! Help!

It occurs to me that when I speak to my friends who do home and studio recording, none of them have ever mentioned latency, and when I mention it, they seem confused. Many users are not doing overdub recording, so for them, latency is not an issue. For many other users, the default settings (100/-1...
