I ALWAYs find small tick samples scattered thruout the track.
Do you listen carefully to the track before applying any edits or effects? You need to do that. To solve the problem you / we need to know when these ticks are appearing.

I go back and replay, and the track is clean.
That suggests a playback problem rather than a problem in the recording.
What equipment are you using?

Re: 16 bit or 24 or 32 float for ACX?

In short, the more "bits", the lower the "possible" noise floor. In real life, the actual noise floor is considerably more that the "lowest possible" for 16, 24 or 32 bit. For technical reasons, it's best to work in 32-bit float, then export in the required format (usua...

Re: What Filter Curve is this?

What I meant:

1. Select a preset -> Name is displayed
If either:
2a. Change any Eq setting
2b. Close and relaunch Audacity
then
-> Name reverts to some default text.

"2a" is something we want.
"2b" is something that will be hard to avoid, whether we want it or not.

Re: Problems viewing the wave form in AAC

The Control + Click to get the wave form showed a magnifying glss As I wrote here https://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?p=412390#p412390 "For Windows (and Linux) that's "Right Click" for the context menu." Ref: https://manual.audacityteam.org/man/audio_tracks.html#scale

Re: What Filter Curve is this?

I've logged this on the wiki: Display curve name in Filter Curve EQ: (2 votes 27Dec20) Only when unmodified preset is in use. There may be an implementation difficulty: User presets are modified by users, so there is no fixed correlation between curve points and curve names. On using the Filter Curv...

Couldn't find a full spec yet.
There isn't yet a published AUP3 specification.
I think the actual specification is more or less frozen now, though there could still be changes if found necessary before the release of 3.0.0.

I've raised this question on the developer's mailing list.

Re: Line only usb audio interface

could I use the return from the send/return as a line input, albeit unbalanced? I don't see much benefit in doing that as it is just mixed in with the main input (but with no level control). Audacity is based on PortAudio (?) but I can't find a dll of it in the distribution. I assume it is compiled...

Re: Line only usb audio interface

Do they exist? I'm looking for an USB audio interface with line inputs only. No microphone preamps. Yes. Lots of them. I use an earlier model similar to this: https://www.behringer.com/product.html?modelCode=P0484 The current version has a headphone socket, where as my ancient version has just anal...

Re: MP3 Decoding Failed

My dilemma is I'm a cheap SOB and don't want to spend an arm and leg to convert 40 year old slightly warped records to MP3 to play in my car when I go pick up lunch during Covid lockdown. Perhaps worth checking if those recordings are available to buy in digital format (for example from iTunes / Am...
