It might be worth testing that. Finding out whether Windows Sound Recorder can record will show if there is a major problem with the sound card or drivers.

I think that you may be seeing a bug that has recently been noticed affecting the slider controls in Nyquist plug-ins.
Could you give step-by-step details of exactly how to reproduce the issue?
Are you using a British keyboard and an English installation of Ubuntu?

Please would you do the following:
1) Launch Audacity
2) Help menu > Audio Device Info"
3) Copy the "info" from the window that appears and paste it into your reply.

Also, what settings do you currently have, and what other settings are available in the Device Toolbar?
