That looks like a "side address" microphone, which means that you need to speak into the "front" of the mic, not into the end of the mic.

What is the make and model number of the mic?
Which model is your Mac?
How is the mic connected to the Mac?

I've just noticed that your question has no replies. Did you manage to resolve this issue or is there still a problem?

Try saving the project, then close and relaunch Audacity, then make a test recording in a new project. Is it recording normally?

Are you referring to a delay when monitoring your mic input on headphones, or do you mean something else?
