You may need to edit your .asoundrc file.
Which Linux distribution are you using?
Is PulseAudio installed by default or did you have to install it yourself?
Do you have a (hidden) file called .asoundrc in your home folder?

Download the Audacity 2.0.3 installer from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/windows
Then double click on the file to run the installer.
If you are logged in with a limited account then you may be prompted to enter an Administrator password for your computer.

I think we are getting a bit closer. With a comma separated locale, a dot should still be allowed as the decimal separator. After it has "gone wrong": For "Duration" in Pluck, slowly type "0.9" (without quoted). You will notice that when you type the "9", the ...
