Re: Distortion (gargling noise) when recording vinyl or CD.
In Audacity, set the default bit-format to 32 bit float. This will not affect the recorded data (and will probably not solve the problem) but it will improve the precision when processing the audio. the sound is severely distorted, like a gargling noise Could you post a short sample (just a couple o...

Re: Center-panned vocal isolation
There is a Channel Mixer plug-in that allows full control of how the left/right channels are mixed, including inverting one channel to perform center-panned vocal removal. There is no combination that can produce center-panned vocal isolation.

Re: Audacity could be more helpful when paused ...
steve, I don't mean to be insulting, but if I was running a software company and had you on the GUI design team, you'd be either off of it or fired based on that remark. No offence taken - in that hypothetical situation I'd resign after successfully suing your pants off for wrongful dismissal ;) Ha...

Were you recording at a high sample rate? If so, you may have exceeded the maximum size limit for saved Audacity projects: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Relea ... e_ProjectsImpus wrote:About 7,5 hours overall.

Re: Frequency Change Question
For some reason in the latest version of Audacity it won't allow a user to 'type' in the 'from' and 'to' frequencies in the 'Change Pitch' Dialog, In the current version of the Change Pitch effect, the "From frequency" is not intended to be editable. The fact that it "looks" lik...

Re: Vacuum Tube Amplifier Equalization/Settings
Tube emulation effects are most likely to be "distortion" effects, which from your description does not seem to be the effect that you are looking for. As written in previous posts, a really good tube amplifier does not have a "sound" - a really good amplifier (tube or solid stat...

Re: Old Turntable Suddenly Won't Record Into Audacity
Definitely something broken. it occurred to me to record out of the RCA ports on the back. I have one of those cables that are RCA on one end and 1/8" on the other. I thought I'd bypass the borked headphone port by doing it that. Instead, I got the same static-y result. What's the deal with tha...

Re: DOLBY DE-CODING
"Dolby" encoding/decoding is restricted by patent/copyright, so any official Dolby encoder/decoder would need to be licensed from Dolby (and would probably not be free).
Just reducing the very high frequencies a little using the Equalization effect will usually be sufficient.
