Re: How do I load a Finale midi file into Audacity

The MIDI capabilities of Audacity are extremely limited, as can be seen in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/note_tracks.html Yes that is all that Audacity can do with MIDI - not much. Audacity is designed for working with audio. MIDI is not audio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MIDI)

Re: How do I load a Finale midi file into Audacity

Audacity does not yet play MIDI files, it can only display them. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/fi ... importmidi

If you can export from Finale as a WAV file then Audacity will be able to import and play that (Import > Audio)

Re: Old Turntable Suddenly Won't Record Into Audacity

If I recall correctly you are recording into a microphone input? The main problem with that is that microphone signals are tiny, so the input is expecting a tiny signal, which is why you are having to record at a really low volume level. There appears to be a constant, low level noise from your turn...

Re: Multitrack recording - direct to Audacity or external de

I would choose "Split Stereo Track" from the track context menu (drop-down). The two tracks must afterwards set to mono (instead of L or R; same menu). Why do that when "Split Stereo to Mono" will do both operations at the same time? This is precisely the job that "Split St...

Re: Unusual calliope like sounds when recording guitar.

There's something very weird happening then. All of the peaks are at exactly 0 dB and that does not happen by accident.

Re: Separating music from sound effects, vice versa

Pick your game/soundtrack carefully. Check to see if the soundtrack has been released as an audio CD (Amazon). Check out Games Mod forums and see if anyone has a recipe that works for a game that you own. Learn about audio formats and digital audio extraction. Look carefully at the files on the game...

Re: Unusual calliope like sounds when recording guitar.

You've not told us much (anything) about what happened between playing the guitar and posting that audio clip, but I doubt that recording has come straight off the mic. Check that Software Playthrough is not enabled in the Transport menu. Check that Audacity is set to record from the USB (Samson) mi...

I tried a quick search for: game sound effect extractor
Google came up with about a million hits in 0.23 seconds.

Re: Separating music from sound effects, vice versa

In most cases, once sounds have been mixed together, unmixing them is like trying to unscramble an egg, however there are a few special cases where it can work, as described in this article: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Vocal_Removal

Re: Separating music from sound effects, vice versa

Games often have sound effects and music as separate files, or separate regions of data within a file. Game designers often make it deliberately difficult to extract the sounds from a game so as to prevent piracy (copyright infringement) but if you search Google you will probably find software avail...
