By default the audio waveform is updated during recording and playback. You can turn that off in preferences.
Ctrl+P to open preferences, then go to the "Tracks" section, then deselect "Update display while playing".

Not all CD drives support writing CD Text. We have three laptops in the department at work - The CD drive in one of them supports writing CD Text but the other two don't. Most good CD writing programs (such as CDBurnerXP support CD Text, but the option is greyed out if the drive does not support it....

Which version of Windows?
What sort of sound card?
Where are your headphones plugged in?
What settings o you have in the Device Toolbar?
Do you have a USB audio device plugged in?
Do other audio applications work?

The .cda file is small because it doesn't contain any audio. It just "points" to the audio that is on the optical disk.

For advanced graphing capabilities you can export the spectrum data from Plot Spectrum and import it into a spreadsheet, MatLab, specialist graph drawing application or similar.

You probably have playback paused. Try pressing the Stop button.

Try this plug-in. It is called "Pitch List to Sound..." Copy the file into the Audacity plug-ins folder and restart Audacity. The plug-in should then appear in the Generate menu. Is this anything like what you want? To get an idea of what it is doing, the PitchList2Sound.ny file can be ope...
