Re: Editing music - End and Begining
Deselect "Snap To" http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/selection_toolbar.html#snap (this should normally not be enabled - it is off by default). Zoom in closer on the waveform: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/zooming.html Press the "Home" key on your keyboard. This will tak...

Re: Gradual desync introduced with long recordings
Here's a video I just made that shows me opening it. Thanks for the video, but I wasn't saying that I didn't believe you ;) I was just saying that vanilla Goldwave will not open the file. As you suggested in an earlier post, I think that Goldwave must be using some other codec that happens to be in...

Re: 8bit conversion
I appreciate Audacity is a platform for generating audio files, but 'aup output' if I can call it that, is not playable outside of the Audacity software. Why would it be, that's not its purpose. Audacity is a multi-track audio editor. It gets used in many different ways according to the needs of th...

Re: 2 questions
if I as a user tell the program to not prompt me to save then I accept any data loss ;) I take your point, but I can't think of any other program that lets you edit something and then close the program without asking the user if they want to save their work. We see plenty of sob stories on this for...

Re: Gradual desync introduced with long recordings
I've provided the download link to the actual file and you can open it in Goldwave and Audacity and compare the length difference. I can't, because Goldwave 5.69 can't open it: goldwave.png Every program that I've tried to decode the file with (SoX, mencoder, ffmpeg, foobar2000, VLC, MPlayer, avcon...

I can't visualise what you are trying to describe. Could you post a screen shot to illustrate.

Re: Getting started issues
Before you open Audacity, plug in your keyboard, then open the Windows Sound Control Panel . Go to the recording settings tab and find the device that corresponds to the input that you are using, and set the recording level so that you see reasonably strong signal in the meter, but not going right u...

Re: plugin for podcasting/radio show sound effects?
Steve, I hate to think I may have to do as you suggest and keep a collection of sound bytes on hand for manual insert later. There are pros and cons to live recording - on the one hand you may be able to capture the excitement of spontaneity. On the other hand you can be stuck with mistakes that ir...

Re: How Do I Monitor Pitch?
Not in "real time". There is a plug-in that will tell you the note and frequency of something that you have already recorded, but that's not what you want is it?sct wrote:Is there a plug in that will do it?
