Re: AV linux and audacity temp files directory
You can reset the default temp directory (and all other preferences) by deleting the preference file: /home/<username>/.audacity-data/audacity.cfg Hopefully Audacity will at least now start. Probably the best location for the temporary data would be on the internal hard drive, if you have read/write...

Re: Fractional BPM in Change Tempo effect
How about rounding the displayed length to three decimal places, like BPM? That may be implying greater accuracy than is actually achieved by SoundTouch. When applied to a 30 second audio clip the returned audio is likely to be a few milliseconds out - even hundredths of a second may be a little am...

Re: 2 questions
Being asked to save the file additionally as an audacity project was a pain in the bottom (5000 times ;)) You could save having to click the "No" button 4999 times by not starting a new project each time. Just press Ctrl+A (select All) the Del (delete) rather than closing the project and ...

Re: Freeze OS not work button reboot
Great, compilation failure in an FFMpeg header... As it says in the manual (http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_installation_and_plug_ins.html#linff) : FFmpeg version information: Audacity should support building against FFmpeg 0.5 through 0.8. It may not currently be possible to build Audacit...

Re: cut preview problem
How about if muted, selected tracks are not cut, but in the preview the mix plays as one normally expects it to do, obeying mute/solo and not selectedness? There will always be exceptions, but generally I think it is easier and more useful for Preview to be consistent whether it is previewing a cut...

Re: Selecting parts of multiple tracks?
If there are only a few tracks to do, select one track and apply the effect, then select the next track and press Ctrl+R to Repeat the effect. You can select a track by double clicking on the waveform.

Re: Equal Loudness Normalizing for a dvd soundtrack
Example: is there a particular order of operation for each element? Perhaps a new topic called Compression, Normalization and Limiting etc. The short answer: Use Chris's dynamic compressor (version 1.2.6): "Amount of compression" control up to about 0.7 or 0.8 (higher for more compression...
