Re: Focusrite Saphire 14. Can't select correct input

We're on Mac here Oops  Does ASIO on Windows let you choose which of multiple channels to record? Usually yes. I don't know if that is always the case, but for example, if using ASIO4All, once it has been enabled in the audio application, the ASIO4All control panel becomes available through w...

Re: Is ASUS Xonar Essence STX Audacity compatible?

I contacted ASUS and they gave me "useful" advice, like installing Win 7 drivers on my XP machine. Lol. Are you able to install the "Xonar Audio Center" in Windows XP? If so, look at page 26 of the user manual and check the input settings. I see that the Xonar has a combined mic...

Re: noise measurements

To get an absolute measurement you need to use a calibrated system. The recorded level in Audacity depends on the type, position and sensitivity of the microphone, and the recording level set in Audacity, and the recording level set in the operating system, and the characteristics of the sound card,...

Re: echo removal

Since you used The Voice as the Profile why does the voice itself not vanish? Good question. It's because the "Sensitivity" control is set very low. Thus the Noise Removal is looking to remove sounds that are "like" the voice, but quieter. The echo/reverb is very much "like...

Re: Every 5 seconds I get a pop or noise spike.

What is the specification / model number of your Acer Aspire? Ubuntu is about the "heaviest" of all Linux distributions, so may not be well suited to an older machine. I use Debian Squeeze on an Aspire 5735 with Gnome Classic desktop. On an even older machine (Pentium II 500 MHz) I use Deb...

Re: Audacity runs fairly good, work environment acts up

Could it have been the graphics card driver, perhaps? It's possible. When possible, Audacity use a cache for the waveform display, but often the waveform needs to be updated, Updating the waveform is pretty heavy duty stuff - sometimes taking longer to calculate than the actual audio processing. I'...

Re: How to actually install FreeVerb on Ubuntu

The page suggested that I try wx-config --version to see if I need to get wx, and I cheated some of the steps of the example and just did sudo apt-get install libwxgtk2.8-dev python-wxgtk2.8 before compiling Audacity. I think that should all be handled by the sudo apt-get build-dep audacity step. I...

Re: Focusrite Saphire 14. Can't select correct input

The real problem is that Windows sound card drivers do not support channel mapping. Most other recording applications get round the problem by using ASIO drivers (which do support channel mapping), but Audacity cannot be distributed with ASIO support because of a conflict between the open source lic...

So that we're clear what you are talking about, what is the "audio bridge"? (make and model number if possible)

Re: echo removal

Before you embark on a long job, try this on a short section of your voice and decide if the small amount of echo reduction is worth the effort: Have you ever used the Noise Removal effect? If not, please read this first: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/noise_removal.html Use the Right channel ...
