Re: au files format specification

Here is the official (but very brief) documentation that I could find: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Glossary#au By the way, I need the format so as to be able to generate/read/analyze Audacity porojects with other software, particularly mathematical software such as Matlab, Octave or Scilab. O...

Re: Sound / Silence Marker

I recall you wanted the Help button to go to the online released Manual if there was no installed Manual, but I thought user should have the opportunity to actually download the Manual, as they do in the same scenario when they press Help > Manual in the menu. I though it better that: 1) If the use...

Re: Sound / Silence Marker

The hardest ones to deal with are live albums that just flow - but then Silence/Sound Finder would struggle with that too. There's really no way to deal with that automatically, other than with track durations from the sleeve notes. The advantage of using point labels for me is that I find it easie...

Re: Sound / Silence Marker

The perceived "over-complication" of Audacity was exactly why Ion/Numark stopped distributing Audacity in favour of a "simple" program targeted at a dumbed down perception of what most users would want to do with their recording. But, it kept more of the Ion/Numark customers hap...

Re: Sound / Silence Marker

Because I want to avoid false-positives. [rhetorical] Good reason? 8-) Precisely why I don't think that tarting up the interface of Silence Finder is sufficient. It needs a rethink. Actually I suspect it's down to the fact that we only had point labels in 1.2.x and most of us documenters got that m...

Re: Crispy sound on voice after noise removal (uploaded exam

If you listen to Test 2 (Without noise removal) how bad does the background noise sound to you? Worse than it could do given the equipment that you are using. There is low frequency noise that can be easily reduced using the High Pass filter effect. Try setting it to a frequency of about 60 to 80 H...

Re: Adding tags to an mp3 file

Is there a way of getting the mp3 settings to match those in the source file Yes you can change the MP3 settings: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/file_export_dialog.html BUT..... so that the audio in the exported file is the same or at least comparable to what was in the source? There will alw...

and demanding an immediate refund... I'd just give them a full refund of $0.0 ;) I'm unclear why a grandmother who has never used a computer or audio software before should intuitively understand what a "threshold" might be. To quote my mother (who the grandmother of my nephews): "Oh...

Re: Bitrate settings for M4A (AAC) Export

AAC encoding for Audacity exporting is provided by the optional FFMpeg library. The exact bit-rate and other encoder options are determined by FFMpeg (which may vary between FFMpeg versions). For more control over AAC encoding options you could try converting with QuickTime or iTunes.
