Re: horrible audio in video
The phrase that I was thinking of was not exactly "mud"
though I see on Google that some have found ways to polish all sorts of materials. Hmm, probably best to leave the conversation at this point.

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes
That's why I called it iTunes-specific metadata. My supposition is that if that is missing, it may it make it more difficult for iPod to play the files. I don't have iTunes or any iTunes files so I need to ask. Is the "iTunes-specific metadata" in one of the standard chunks, or is it an a...

Re: horrible audio in video
Maybe in an other audio-editor? No. There is little that can be done to improve that audio. The original audio before uploading to YouTube may have been better. There is an impolite phrase that comes to mind that means: "The impossibility of trying to make something hopelessly weak and unattra...

Re: I can't record
the red/green bars at the top show it, but there is no wave form. I'm guessing that the waveform is present, but too small to see. As a test, try recording and then apply the Amplify effect to the recording and see if the recording appears. If it does appear, then it will probably be horrible sound...

Re: Different speeds on different computers
Oh, sorry. The delay differs from time to time. It seems to be more severe now than it was when I did the first couple of episodes, and now I've done about 10. Usually there is only a few dussin milliseconds, and in the beginning it was an easy fix. But in the later episodes, the timing seems to ch...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes
As stated before, if Audacity exports an iTunes-created AIFF file containing NORM and PGAP data, it duplicates the Normalisation information towards the top of the file (but removing the "NORM" designation from both instances) and removes the Gapless (PGAP) information entirely. I don't s...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes
It would be nicer if it fixed the file for you, That's jumping to the assumption that the file is "broken" in some way, which at this stage I'd say is far from certain. Apple support say that the error -39 message indicates that the file may be corrupt, but in this case the file data is c...

It is usually possible to make a really good recording sound like a bad recording.

Re: losing quality when exporting
It should not make any difference, but lame is a free knock-off of the real, paid MP3 software from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. People have posted that they could hear the difference. ABX testing (double blind testing) indicates that for bit rates of 160 kbps or higher, LAME is at least as good as the...

Re: Can Audacity Show Where a Clip Has Occurred?
How do I view the wave-type shown in Koz's screenshot? You need to zoom in really close on the waveform (see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/zooming.html ) how do I make a screenshot of the waves so that I can share a jpg? You can create screenshots in PNG format (an image format similar to J...
