Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

Ok, it seems that I've at last found the culprit. I think you're onto something Robert. Unfortunately Riff-Pad seems to be rather buggy, but I can confirm that it is indicating that Audacity sometimes produces chunks with an odd number of bytes, which is contrary to the AIFF specification. I've pre...

Re: exporting only selected tracks?

You can use "region labels" to mark the parts that you want to export.
To create a region label, select the part that you want to export and press Ctrl+B. http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/label_tracks.html

Re: Linear Scale Recording Line not on Zero.

The problem is called "DC offset". It is one of the most common hardware faults of cheap / on-board sound cards. There are also other possible causes, such as if you are recording from a fault device that puts a DC voltage on the input. We have also seen at least one case where it was due ...

Re: ALSA Question

Robert J.H. wrote a code snippet for testing the bit format of audio in a track: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic ... 90#p191390
The code can be run in the Nyquist Prompt effect http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/ny ... rompt.html

Re: ALSA Question

I had an idea of how I could partly test 24 bit recording. Using Jack audio system I played a 24 bit track and set Audacity to record the output. The recording was identical 24 bit data, so although I can't test with a 24 bit sound card I can confirm that Audacity can correctly record 24 bit data. J...

Re: ALSA Question

I've not tested as I don't have a 24 bit sound card, but my understanding is that Audacity will correctly record 24 bit Audio on Linux (assuming of course that the sound card and drivers are 24 bit capable).

Re: Scribbling over tracks

Once you get use to using labels you may be interested in looking at the "Sync Lock" feature: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/sync_locked_tracks.html It's not a feature that I use very often, and consequently I find it a bit confusing, but users that use it regularly often find it ind...

Re: Scribbling over tracks

Labels are the way to go with this. Select the part that you want to annotate. Ctrl+B to add a label Type your note Enter to close the text. Once you have a label track it is even easier: Select the region that you wish to annotate including the label track Type your note Enter to close the text. Un...

Oops, yes, that's what I meant (I keep forgetting that it's in a different place on Mac OS X  )
