Re: recording audio cassettes problems
First check which version of Audacity you have (Look in "Help > About Audacity"). The current version is 2.0.3. If you have any other version, uninstall it and get the current version from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/ Close Audacity before you connect the USB device. Ensure that...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes
Interestingly that Aple products do not abide by their house-made specifications Ironic isn't it. (it might be interesting to test a mono 24 bit file that has an odd number of samples as this would have an odd number of bytes in the SSND chunk). Riff-Pad counts the number of bytes incorrectly but i...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes
Just a quick update on what we know so far. I think that Koz and Gale are still looking at some other details, but here's what we have established from the most recent tests. From the AIFF specification ( AIFF-1.3.pdf ): An AIFF file is composed of "Chunks". Some Chunks (such as the one th...

More generally, be careful when modifying the transformation environment. This is probably the trickiest aspect of Nyquist. The manual includes several examples of how to use transformations successfully, but I still find it easy to do it wrong

Re: killing nyquist with extract
I can see why there is a problem with your original code, but I think that the fact that it causes Nyquist to crash is a bug. "Asserts" are put into code by programmers to flag if something happens that should never happen, as opposed to putting in an "Error" to handle incorrect ...

Re: killing nyquist with extract
As the problem is in Nyquist rather than just Audacity's implementation of Nyquist, I've e-mailed Roger Dannenberg (creator of Nyquist) directly. I'll post updates here if I hear any news about this.

Re: Removing/smoothing a natrual voice crack/horse sound.
It's called a "Portable Vocal Booth".
A couple of dense cushions, winter coats or a folded rug behind the mic would be a lot cheaper
Heavy curtains, sofas, beds and such like in the room will all help to avoid the "bathroom" type sound.

Re: recording - "no audio devices are installed
Ensure that the toneport is connected and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity.
To check that the Toneport has been correctly recognised by Windows, look in the Windows Sound Control Panel and check that it is listed as a recording device and that it is enabled.

Re: Problem using the Equalization effect
There is a bug in Audacity 2.0.3 in which the Eq curve changes if you switch between "Draw Curve" and "Graphic Eq". The problem has been fixed in the development code and so will be fixed in the next Audacity release, but for now you will need to ensure that you save and load cur...
