Re: ALSA Question

The only way that I know of to enable Audacity to make a bit perfect recording of its own output is with Jack. Jack is terrific for serious audio work, but I agree that it can be difficult to set it up initially. How easy it is to set it up all depends on what your sound system is like before you st...

Re: Filters to match volume levels

If the object of the exercise is to make the tracks have about the same loudness, then MP3Gain is the way to go, but I'm not sure that you are using it correctly. If the object of the exercise is to make all of the tracks "loud", then compression and/or limiting is the way to go, though th...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

The multiple export of Audacity is after al behaving correctly and compliant with the specifications. However, I am not sure if those 3 extra text chunks are necessary - all information is in the ID3 tag too. The three text chunks are optional. Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

There are several advantages to using compressed format on iPods. The two main ones are that you can fit a lot more songs into the device (for 320 kbps files you can fit more than 4 times as many songs), and compressed files improve battery life (because disk reads are relatively heavy on battery po...

Re: AIFF files will not play on iPod, will on iTunes

Not following you on this, what faux pas did apple commit? The AIFF format specification was largely written by Apple, thus the irony that the iPod Classic is not fully compliant with that standard. Not sure I follow this either. I have a new iPod classic, The 6th generation iPod Classic was releas...

Re: recording audio cassettes problems

Have a look in the Windows Sound Control Panel and set the recording level for the USB device so that you get a blue waveform that is about half the track height.
Headphones should normally go into the green socket on the back of your computer, (not blue).

Gale Andrews wrote:That's not correct if ID3 is the final chunk and Riffpad could read the previous chunks correctly.
It seems that it also depends on the number of bytes in ID3. Anyway, that was only an aside and not really relevant to the matter in hand.

Re: Lost data Files

Make sure that you are not getting confused between "Saving projects" and "Exporting audio files".
You will find important information about how to safely handle "projects" here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/au ... jects.html
