Re: Audacity quits abnormally when S/PDIF stops while record

One sure way to dig a hole with Audacity's face is to unplug the USB or Firewire cable when Audacity is standing on it. I have a mental picture of Mr Audacity standing on a rug with "S/PDIF" written on it, and someone giving the rug a sharp tug. Mr Audacity falls over. It seems like that ...

I rarely use it myself, but Chris's dynamic compressor gets a lot of recommendations by users on this forum for this type of job.

Re: track name overwritten with words from speech audio

I can't think of any obvious reason why this has happened, but there is one option that we can rule out immediately. Audacity does not understand speech. There is no way that Audacity can get a track name from the audio data. This does not tell us much, but it does tell us that Audacity must be gett...

Re: Cannot find AUP project file

I saved an interview as an aup file onto my desktop. This is the crucial issue. Audacity does not save projects as aup files. Audacity saves Audacity Projects , and an Audacity Project is made up of: A file with the file extension .AUP and audio data . I still have the data file, When you record so...

Re: Amplitude peaks decrease with increasing bin sizes: Norm

Yes that is normal. The spectrum plot (both the graphic and the export data) are normalized such that a 0 dB sine wave at a frequency that lies in the centre of a an FFT frequency band will read as 0 dB. (try generating a tone at 516.8 Hz). The graphic spectrum plot is limited by the pixel size. Ver...

Re: Loud buzz and very low audio input

You have a huge mismatch between one of the output levels and one of the input levels.
Are you sure that the computer input is a "line" input and not a "Mic" input?

Re: I Lost All of My Work on audacity

Reinstalling rarely solves problems in Audacity (I've not yet come across a single case where it did so). For some issues, reinstalling and resetting preferences may fix problems. The Windows installer includes an option to reset preferences. I was creating a song, it was about 3 minutes long when i...

Re: Post Game Commentary

Audacity does not support video. I would suggest that you record each "comment" (may be as little as a gasp, or may be a full paragraph of text) as separate files. You can then drop each "comment" into the appropriate place in your video editor program. You may find it convenient...
