The developers appear to dislike patches that do not focus on one thing or "re-architect" too much at once.

If the other noise is occurring at the same time as the voice, then there is probably no way that Audacity can separate them.

To export 5.1 you need to enable "Use custom mix" in "Edit > Preferences > Import/Export".

That looks too short for a standard Ubuntu setup.
Is your sound system customised in any way? Do you have PulseAudio installed?
