Re: change dither to none? in quality settings?
Probably because you exported as 24 bit FLAC. If you exported as 16 bit FLAC the dither should have exactly the same level (note that because dither has a random element they will not be bit for bit identical.) The amount of dither required when exporting in 24 bit is much lower than 16 bit. To sele...

Re: Left/Right channels de-synchronised after editing
I don't know how I managed to do it either. I know that you don't have to be very savvy to do it, because I am not. :P Could you check the version number of Audacity - Go to the "Help" menu and open "About Audacity". There is a three part number - it should be 2.0.3, but it coul...
Re: Volume
I also have problem with how clearly I enunciate my p's and s's, so maybe I overcompensated in distancing myself from mic. Don't move away from the microphone - it will make things worse. Use a "pop shield" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pop_filter), keep close to the microphone and practi...

Re: cutting and pasting between files and fades....
Does it make sense to copy the 45 second region and create a new file with it on its own to then use in future? If you will be reusing part of a project in other projects, then it is very convenient to export it as a new file. To do so, select the part that you want to use, then from the File menu ...

Re: Crash of 2.0.3 upon launch in Win XP
Blue screen crashes are almost always due to driver problems. Most probably a sound card driver, (though it is not impossible for it to be some other driver). If Audacity was working previously on this machine then it could indicate that the problem has arisen from an updated driver, in which case y...
Re: File size
You can calculate the file size of an MP3:
(kbps x duration in seconds) / 8 = file size in kB.
The sample rate is not relevant to the file size of an MP3.

Re: New plug-in effect - PopMute
I guess the sentence in blue is for "Look Ahead"? In practice the best settings depend on may factors, but if there is a short loud "click" during a very quiet part of a recording (for example when "cleaning" clicks from the gap between tracks from a vinyl recording) t...

Re: unable to export as MP3
Dear Moderator, This is a public forum. Although forum staff regularly post replies to questions, it is open (and encouraged) for all Audacity users to help each other :) I have created audio files with Audacity from cassettes and am now trying to export them as MP3. However when I do so the audio ...

Did you reset preferences?
When you attempted to launch Audacity did a dialog will appear asking you to confirm if you want to reset preferences?
Does your computer have a working sound card?
Are you able to record with Windows Sound Recorder?
