Re: record vinyl to laptop

Well when I listen to music on good quality vinyl I hear no noise whatsoever. There is always some surface noise from vinyl - even on the original pressings, it can't be avoided due to the mechanical processes. With a really good set up and really good vinyl there won't be much, but it can't be avo...

Re: EDIT/PREFERENCES/RECORDING/OK PER PROJECT

Try using "Transport > Rescan Audio Devices" instead of the opening and closing Preferences. What happens?

Re: noise removal help

SoX is thoroughly documented - see their web site. You are unlikely to find a programmer that is willing to work for you for free. If you need someone to do the programming then you will need to either find a programmer that is interested in the same area and collaborate with them, or pay someone to...

Re: record vinyl to laptop

If the discussion relates to lossy vs lossless digital audio the insistence is that claims about which is better or worse **must** always be based on audibility/ABX testing. Conversely when the discussion shifts to vinyl vs digital that set of criteria is swiftly binned. In order to do ABX testing ...

Re: Dramatically reducing file size of a WAV for an online g

For uncompressed audio formats, the file size is easy to calculate: (bits per sample) x (samples per second) x (channels) x (length in seconds) = number of bits. number of bits / 8 = number of bytes. Apart from RAW there is also a little to add on for the "header" and any included metadata...

Re: Problem when export (add noise)

That is only a partial solution. Normally dither should be enabled as it provides better sound quality (less distortion) than disabling it, However it has recently been discovered that the default dither settings do not work correctly when exporting stereo tracks and the dither noise is much higher ...

Re: Recording artifacts, 50 samples jump

Skips and jumps are a pain to trouble shoot. There are so many different things that can cause the problem. There are some issues to look at here - some are specific to Windows, but others apply to any computer: http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/faq_recording_troubleshooting.html#skips What setti...

Re: Missing mp3 files after closing Audacity

I don't see any obvious explanation, and this is not a known problem, in fact I strongly suspect that it is not an Audacity issue, otherwise (with many millions of Audacity users across the globe) I expect that we would have come across it before. After I narrate the slide, I have exported the mp3 t...

Re: Adding pauses or silence

I want to generate some Tones,say,7 seconds long followed by a pause or silence. Let's say that you want a tone 7 seconds long, followed by 3 seconds of silence (10 seconds total duration). Two methods come to mind: Method 1 Generate Menu > Tone. Set the type of tone that you want, the amplitude an...
