I wonder how long it would take the developers to knock up a simple "surveillance recorder" to sell and raise funds for Audacity development?

Re: Recording ultrasounds, please recommend an USB sound car

OK, so we're talking "bats" :P Yes, the Panasonic WM61 is the best bet that I can think of as an inexpensive solution. I can go with that article's conclusion: "There are no guarantees as to frequency response which is unspecified at ultrasonic frequencies, but it appears to work in p...

Re: Track Drop-down Menu commands

Another elegant solution: Clever idea Robert, but that is much more complicated to code and may be beyond my limited abilities. Imagine that I have created a copy of the original and applied a full wet reverb. I now try to find the perfect mixture by using gain up and down. Eventually, I realize th...

Re: Track Drop-down Menu commands

You could assign the free "U" for 'Move Track &Up' That's a good idea. and thus free the letter "P" for 'Move Track to To&P'. except that characters with descenders should not really be used as access keys because the underscore is not visible. A sub-menu for the move co...

Re: How to get back exact quality?

MP3 and MP4 are "lossy" formats. That means that each time it is encoded, a little bit more of the audio information is thrown away with some inevitable loss of sound quality. This is why it is highly recommended to work in a "lossless" format such as WAV, throughout the producti...

Re: Lame installation

Good, OK. Double-click on "Lame v3.99.3 for Windows.exe" (on your desktop) to run it. This is the installer for Lame. If you get a warning "publisher could not be verified", you can safely ignore the warning and tell it to continue. Follow the on-screen instructions and accept al...

Re: Track Drop-down Menu commands

I've split this topic and moved it to "Adding Features". An example: a command "Move Track to Top" could easily replace 10 "Move Track Up" commands if one can't use a mouse I'm currently looking at doing that, and "Move Track to Bottom". This will bring the me...

Re: Lame installation

OK, let's take this one step at a time and hopefully walk through to it all working ;) So that I know where you are starting from and so that there is nothing running to mess this up, reboot your computer. Then go to this page: http://lame1.buanzo.com.ar/#lamewindl IGNORE THE GREEN DOWNLOAD BUTTON. ...

Re: Recording ultrasounds, please recommend an USB sound car

The Panasonic WM61 is actually specified up to 20kHz (http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/components/pdf/em06_wm61_a_b_dne.pdf) so it may pick up some frequencies above 20 kHz, but the response will probably be dropping off quite sharply above 20 kHz. At this point, I'd need something which can hand...
