Notch filter and/or Equalization effects are the right tools, but I doubt that you will be able to eliminate the squeal because it is made up of multiple frequencies and the frequencies are not constant. The best that you are likely to be able to do is to reduce the squeal. I doubt that compression ...

Usually no. In most cases, when instruments are mixed together into one track they are inseparable.

It sounds like it is probably a problem with the sound card drivers.
Does your usual media player play audio files OK?
What options do you have set in the device toolbar?
Please select "Audio device info" from the Audacity Help menu and copy/paste the information into your reply.

After changing the time units you will probably need to click again on one of the digits to select it before you can scroll the digit.

Is it "supposed to be" possible to record from the Numark mix track on the computer that it is connected to? (for example, does the Numark manual say that it can be done?)

Not really a "competitor" (Goldwave isn't open source, doesn't work on Mac OS X or Linux, doesn't support multi-track projects, ...) I'd call it "different software" ;) Anyhow, I'd be quite interested to know the solution. Could you post a link to the answer that you were given, ...

Yes your question makes sense, but unfortunately it is hard to fix. Human hearing is incredibly sensitive and can pick up tiny clues to distance and environment in voices. If a recording is made in a kitchen, it is likely to sound like it was made in a kitchen, whereas if it is made in a living room...
